The Wood Element (목)
The Five Elements · growth and beginnings
When Wood leads your chart
Wood leads your chart — growth is your default setting. You start things, stretch limits, and measure life in progress made. Watch the pattern of outgrowing what you build: the job, the city, the plan that fit last year.
When Wood is missing
Wood is absent — initiation doesn't come pre-installed. Starting things, asserting growth, betting on yourself: these are learned skills for you, and borrowed momentum (a deadline, a partner, spring itself) helps.
Where Wood shows up
Wood is plants, paper, mornings, things that grow. Its colors run green. In the productive cycle, Wood is fed by Water and feeds Fire; in the controlling cycle it reins in Earth and is reined in by Metal. Balance across all five — not more of any one — is what a reading looks for.
The day masters carried by Wood
- Yang Wood — Gap (갑목)
Grows in one direction — up. Plans in years while everyone plans in weeks.
- Yin Wood — Eul (을목)
Bends around every obstacle and still arrives. Underestimated exactly once.
